🌋 KapohoKine Adventures - Elite Volcano Hike (From Kona & Waikoloa)
Hike across the ancient lava fields of Kilauea Volcano, with landscapes dating back to the 1881 flow. Starting from the Kona side, your journey crosses Saddle Road, offering sweeping views of Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa, two of the tallest and most massive volcanoes on Earth. Along the way, your National Park Service–certified guide shares fascinating insights into Hawaii's volcanology and geology.
Your first stop is Kaumana Caves, part of the lava tube system that once carried lava to within 1.5 miles of downtown Hilo. Step inside its cathedral-like entrance, then enjoy a short drive through historic Hilo town and a stop at the KapohoKine Adventures store for supplies.
From there, continue to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park to witness the dramatic aftermath of the 2018 eruption. After a scenic picnic lunch, embark on a guided three-mile hike along the Halemaumau Trail, descending to the transformed caldera floor.
Post-hike, explore more volcanic wonders including Mauna Ulu's lava flows, Pele's Tears, and striking lava trees. You’ll also walk through the lush rainforest to the older Nahuku Lava Tube before concluding the day with a hearty dinner at a favorite local restaurant in Volcano Village.
